Question: In a substance abusing older adult population how effective are specialist older adult substance misuse services compared to ageless services in increasing uptake of services, improving health outcomes, and reducing risky behaviours?

Answer:

No clinical or research implications can be made from the available evidence. Only one randomised controlled trial has evaluated the impact of specialist services in participants with at risk-alcohol use. Although the outcomes of this research are positive for two different types of care models, the reliability of the results are uncertain.
