Question:
In adults with psychosis and comorbid substance misuse, how effective is family/carer work, in improving patient outcomes?
Answer:
Evidence from one small, high quality randomised controlled
trial indicated that family interventions may benefit both patients
with psychosis and co-morbid substance misuse and their family
members. However, there were problems in establishing initial
engagement and maintaining continued participation. Further
research is needed to confirm these findings, and to explore the
relative effectiveness of different types of family
intervention.
