Question:
In adults with depression how effective is paroxetine compared to other anti-depressive agents for improving patient outcomes?
Answer:
No definite clinical implications can be made based on the
available evidence. The authors of a well-conducted systematic
review suggested that there were some possible differences between
paroxetine and other antidepressants, but that the clinical meaning
of these differences is uncertain, and that no definitive
implications for clinical practice can be drawn. They also stated
that more high quality studies are needed that consider rating
scales as well as pragmatic outcome measures (for example
hospitalisations, return to work, social functioning, etc.).
